Keira Knightley is looking back on her 2006 Oscar nomination for her role as Elizabeth Bennet in 'Pride & Prejudice', which marked a turning point in her career. In an interview with Vanity Fair, the actress recalled being confused by the public's perception of her acting abilities at the time.
At just 20 years old, Knightley became the third-youngest person to receive an Academy Award nomination. However, she was also facing criticism for her role in 'Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest', which had been released around the same time.

"I remember it coming out maybe the same year, maybe around the same time as Pirates 2, and I got the worst reviews ever for that, and then also being nominated for an Oscar at the same time—it was, in my 21-year-old head, quite confusing," Knightley recalled.
The actress also reunited with her 'Pride & Prejudice' co-star Rosamund Pike to celebrate the film's 20th anniversary. During their conversation, Pike mentioned Knightley's early project, 2002's 'Bend it Like Beckham', which received negative reviews.

Knightley acknowledged the criticism, saying, "I think it was the first time that it had been unequivocally positive, right?"
The actress's Oscar nomination for 'Pride & Prejudice' marked a shift in her career, with the film receiving critical acclaim and commercial success.
