The Bachelor couple, Grant Ellis and Juliana Pasquarosa, have ended their engagement less than three months after it aired on television. Ellis, 31, announced the news on his Instagram story on Friday, June 13.

"This is one of the harder things I've had to write, but I want to share it honestly. Juliana and I have decided to end our relationship," Ellis wrote. "We both gave this our best and poured a lot of love into each other, but after a lot of deep conversations, we've come to the understanding that we're simply not the right fit long term. What we had was meaningful,"

The pair met and fell in love during the 29th season of the reality dating series. They got engaged in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic on the Bachelor finale, which aired in March. Ellis said, "Juliana, since our first night playing the piano and getting to know you, we've always had a connection."

"I truly believe that you're somebody who is my best friend, and I'm so grateful for our journey, and when you're going through the toughest times in your life, I want you to know that you don't have to go through it alone, that I'll be there for you, as your man, as your friend, as your partner," he said before asking, "Will you marry me?"

Teary-eyed, she accepted the proposal, exclaiming, "Yes. Absolutely, baby!"

Following the engagement, they opened up about their relationship to PEOPLE and shared that there was a "spark" from the beginning. Pasquarosa said, "You could tell there was a bit of an instant spark. I think it was in his eye contact and his body language when I got out… He was a lot taller and a lot more handsome in person."

The former couple also shared that while they were in "no rush" to get married, they have no doubts they've found the right spouse for them. Ellis added that he found his fiancée's heart to be her defining quality, explaining, "I have no doubt in my mind that she's an amazing person, that she's going to make an amazing wife, and I'm excited. I think we understand each other to our core."

Ellis added that there's no negativity, no resentment, just two people who care about each other and want the best for one another moving forward. He'll always be grateful for what they shared and for the growth that came with it. Thank you to everyone who supported them and believed in their journey. This chapter is closing, but they're both walking away with love and respect in their hearts.
