It's a proud moment for the Beckham family! David Beckham, the celebrated English soccer star, has been named for knighthood by King Charles, and his son Romeo is be more thrilled.
Romeo, 22, took to Instagram Stories to express his pride for his dad, posting a blurry photo of the two of them smiling together. "So so proud of you 😊😊😊😊," he wrote. David later reposted the photo to his own Instagram Stories.
The knighthood is a recognition of David's iconic sporting career and his lasting contributions to British society. With this honor, his wife Victoria Beckham now carries the title Lady Beckham.
The former Manchester United player was appointed an Order of the British Empire (OBE) by Queen Elizabeth in 2003 and was nominated for a knighthood over 10 years ago, according to The Guardian.
David also reposted Manchester United's Instagram tribute, which featured a photo of his signature No. 7 jersey with the name "Sir David" instead of just his last name.
Throughout his lifetime, David has been celebrated as one of the greatest soccer players of his generation, with a record-breaking stint at Manchester United, where he won the Premier League title six times over nine years.
He was also the first English player to reach 100 Champions League appearances and the first English player to claim league titles in four different countries: England, Spain, France, and the United States.
