Mariah Carey is doubling down on her stance that she doesn't have a birthday. In a recent interview with Capital FM, the 56-year-old pop star explained why she doesn't believe in the passage of time or clocks.

Mariah Carey on October 11, 2019 in Beverly Hills, California.

During the interview, co-hosts Sian Welby, Jordan North, and Chris Stark asked Carey about her unconventional belief system. When asked if it's true that she doesn't acknowledge the passing of time, Carey candidly confirmed, "That is true."

When Welby asked what she meant by that, Carey simply replied, "I just don't believe in it." Stark, still confused, wanted to know if she was referring to time zones, but Carey said, "No, just time."

Welby then asked if Carey celebrates her birthday, to which she replied, "I don't have a birthday, no. Anniversaries, yes." This isn't the first time Carey has shared her beliefs surrounding time and aging. In a 2014 interview with Out Magazine, she said, "I'm eternally 12 years old."

Carey's unconventional beliefs have sparked curiosity, with some wondering how she keeps track of time. When asked how she would meet up with someone, Carey proposed, "I would have someone call you and figure it out."

Carey's upcoming 16th studio album is set to drop later this year. In the meantime, fans can stay up-to-date on the latest celebrity news and human interest stories with PEOPLE's free daily newsletter.
