Cobie Smulders is set to return to Shrinking for the upcoming third season, reuniting with her former How I Met Your Mother co-star Jason Segel. The news was confirmed by the show's co-creator Bill Lawrence in an interview with TVLine.

Smulders first appeared in season 2 as Sofi, a woman who sold her car to Segel's character Jimmy. She was also positioned as a potential love interest for the widower. According to Lawrence, Smulders will now be a recurring character in the upcoming season.

Lawrence explained that the show is about a tiny found family that built a nuclear safety bubble around themselves to get through s---, and then people forgive and open up these doors. He added that Smulders will be a part of this process, especially for Jimmy, who is trying to move forward and find happiness again.

This marks the first time cast members from How I Met Your Mother have hit the small screen together since the series ended in 2014. Although some of the cast have reunited off-screen in the years since the original series ended, this is a special moment for fans of the show.

In addition to Smulders' return, the show will also feature Isabella Gomez as a love interest for Luke Tennie's character, and Michael J. Fox will appear in a recurring role. The show's co-creator and executive producer Brett Goldstein will also return for multiple episodes.

Seasons 1 and 2 of Shrinking can be streamed on Apple TV+.
