The incident occurred when Brady, 47, tossed the trophy to Gronkowski, 36, in a hallway lined with reporters and photojournalists. Although Gronkowski caught the trophy, it broke as it landed in his hands.

Gasps could be heard as cameras continued flashing, and the two friends quickly got into a playful argument over who was responsible for the broken trophy.

"You broke it!" Brady yelled as he ran towards Gronkowski.

"I didn't break it! You threw it way too hard," Gronkowski shot back.

The pair continued to banter back and forth, with Brady jokingly telling Gronkowski, "You are washed up."

Brady and Gronkowski have been friends for over a decade, having played together on the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. They have won multiple Super Bowl titles together, with Brady holding the record for the most Super Bowl wins by a player.

In a previous interview with PEOPLE, Gronkowski opened up about their friendship and Brady's retirement, saying, "We were an incredible team... We had incredible chemistry over the last 12 years."
