Tennis star Kei Nishikori has finally spoken out amid allegations that he cheated on his wife, Mai Yamaguchi, with a model. The 35-year-old Olympian issued a statement apologizing for causing discomfort to his fans and supporters, as well as his wife and children.
"I deeply apologize for causing discomfort to everyone who supports me: tennis fans, associations, sponsors, and other related parties, and for their concern and inconvenience due to my dishonest behavior," Nishikori said in the statement. "Additionally, I deeply regret making my wife and children feel hurt."
The Japanese tabloid Shukan Bunshun reported that Nishikori was seen visiting the apartment of model Azuki Oguchi last week in Japan. The two allegedly met in 2022 in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Nishikori, who is currently ranked as the world's No. 66 player, has not shared a statement about the allegations on social media. His representative did not respond to requests for further comment.
The tennis champion has been married to Mai Yamaguchi since 2020 and they share two children together. In 2022, Nishikori shared a post on Instagram celebrating their wedding ceremony and reception, which was delayed due to Covid restrictions.
Nishikori recently withdrew from the French Open and Wimbledon due to injury. He achieved a milestone in April, becoming the eighth active player, and first Asian player, to earn 450 career tour-level wins.
