Singer Nezza has opened up about her decision to sing the national anthem in Spanish at a Dodgers game on June 14, 2025, despite being told by the team to sing it in English.
In an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Monday, June 23, Nezza, whose full name is Vanessa Hernández, said she's still trying to process what came over her to make the bold choice.

"I still have no words for what came over me, but I'm so happy I did it," Nezza said during the interview.
Nezza explained that she was inspired to sing the anthem in Spanish after protests against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids broke out in Los Angeles. She asked the Dodgers if she could sing the anthem in both English and Spanish, but they only responded by telling her she'd have 90 seconds on the field.
Three days before the game, Nezza's best friend pointed out that she was performing on the day of the No Kings marches, and Nezza decided to sing the anthem fully in Spanish.

"I basically almost, like, s---- my pants," Nezza admitted, adding that she's a strict rule follower and has never broken a rule in her life.
Despite her initial nervousness, Nezza said she's glad she took a stand and sang the anthem in Spanish. "If teenage me saw that video of what I did, I think she would pass out from anxiety," she joked.
