Emily Alyn Lind, who plays Cadence Sinclair in the Prime Video adaptation of E. Lockhart's bestselling book We Were Liars, has revealed that she couldn't bear to rehearse the heart-wrenching goodbye scenes with her costars in the show's finale.

Lind, 23, told PEOPLE that the scenes were too emotional for her to run through multiple times. "I mean, those were the scenes that were really, really, really, really – we didn't run them once," she said.

In the finale, Cadence finally learns the truth about what happened to her friends, Johnny (Joseph Zada), Mirren (Esther McGregor), and Gat (Shubham Maheshwari), and the emotional weight of the scenes was too much for Lind to rehearse.

"It was actually saying goodbye to my friends that I had just spent five months making this really special thing [with]," she said. "The writing was really beautiful."

Lind described the experience of filming the series as "really special" and one that she'll remember "for the rest of my life." She also praised her costars, saying, "I didn't know what that would be [like]. I didn't know that that meant what it meant in the sense of, it doesn't matter after it comes out, it just matters in the sense of going to set every day and keeping the tone of the set a certain way."
