Mariska Hargitay, the renowned actress from Law & Order: SVU, has embarked on a personal journey to uncover the enigmatic life of her late mother, Hollywood icon Jayne Mansfield. In her feature film directorial debut, 'My Mom Jayne', Hargitay delves into the complexities of her mother's life, beyond the glamour and sex symbol persona that defined her public image.

During an appearance on the Today show on June 26, Hargitay shared her experience of hearing her mother's "real" voice for the first time, which was a stark contrast to the breathy, higher-pitched voice Mansfield often used in public. "That voice drove me nuts," Hargitay confessed, adding that she wanted to know the person behind the pose and the sex symbol.

Hargitay's documentary, set to debut on HBO and Max on June 27, features archival footage of Mansfield, which allowed her to hear and get to know her mother's true voice. "Because the voice was a thing for me, to hear her, her real voice, when she dropped down in that register, I went [gasps] 'There you are. There you are!'" she exclaimed, describing the experience as "such a gift."

The documentary is a result of Hargitay's desire to reconcile with her mother's status as a sex symbol and to understand the complexities of her life. "I had a very complicated relationship with her, and I think I was angry that I didn't know the person behind the pose, if you will," she said.

Hargitay's journey to uncover her mother's true voice and persona has been an extraordinary one, and 'My Mom Jayne' promises to be a heartfelt and intimate portrayal of their relationship. Don't miss the opportunity to stream the documentary on HBO and Max starting June 27.
