Get ready for more intergalactic adventures with Lilo and Stitch! Disney has announced that a sequel to the live-action remake of the beloved film is in development, just one month after its debut in theaters.
The news came on June 26, a nod to Stitch's government name, Experiment 626. Disney shared a video of Stitch driving a mini pink convertible with a license plate that read "2 fast," leaving tire marks that spelled out "Lilo and Stitch 2."
"Should've known he couldn't keep a secret," the caption read. "A 626 day surprise: #LiloAndStitch 2 is now in development!"
The live-action Lilo & Stitch, which grossed $183 million in the U.S. and $341.7 million worldwide in its first weekend, stars Hawaiian child star Maia Kealoha as Lilo, Chris Sanders as Stitch, and a talented ensemble cast including Sydney Agudong, Kaipo Dudoit, Courtney B. Vance, Billy Magnussen, and Zach Galifianakis.
The film follows the heartwarming story of Lilo, a lonely human girl, and Stitch, a dog-like alien, who form an unlikely bond and learn about the importance of family and acceptance.
Disney's live-action remake lineup includes Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Aladdin, and Mulan, with projects in development for Bambi, The Little Mermaid, Peter Pan, and Moana.
