In a shocking move, the Dallas Wings have traded forward NaLyssa Smith to the Las Vegas Aces, forcing the WNBA couple to go long distance.

Smith, 24, took to X to express her emotions, saying she was "sick to my stomach" after learning about the trade. She will be leaving behind her girlfriend, guard DiJonai Carrington, who remains with the Wings.

Despite the bittersweet news, Smith is excited to join the Aces, who won back-to-back championships in 2022 and 2023. She posted on X, "on another note tho if i could've chose anywhere to go it would've been vegas" and expressed her enthusiasm about playing alongside 3-time MVP A'ja Wilson.

The trade comes as a surprise to fans, especially since Smith and Carrington have a history of playing together. They previously played one season together at Baylor University in the 2020-2021 season, where they reached the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament.

The Aces, currently sitting in 7th place, will benefit from Smith's addition as they look to regain stability to their record. They recently lost Wilson for a three-game losing streak due to concussion protocol. Meanwhile, the Wings, who currently sit in 12th place, receive a 2027 first-round pick in exchange for Smith.

Smith will face off against her old team and Carrington on July 16 when the Aces take on the Wings in Dallas, just before the All-Star break.
