According to Variety, the sequel follows Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep) as she navigates her career amid the decline of traditional magazine publishing and faces off against Emily Blunt's character, now a high-powered executive for a luxury group with advertising dollars that Priestly desperately needs.

While there haven't been official casting announcements, many of the original stars are rumored to return, stepping back into their iconic roles in the glamorous – but evolved – high-fashion journalism industry years later.

Original Cast's Thoughts on a Sequel

Though the main cast have had nothing but positive things to say about their time making the original, they have expressed some hesitancy about a sequel. Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt have both expressed mixed feelings about the idea of a sequel, with Hathaway suggesting that the movie was in a different era and that it might be better to reboot with a new cast.

Director and Producer

Wendy Finerman, who produced The Devil Wears Prada, is set to return for the film, and, per Deadline, the original director, David Frankel, is also having conversations about a return. The same writer who wrote the 2006 film, Aline Brosh McKenna, is also confirmed to be returning.
