Dave Franco Finds Refreshing 'Unhingedness' of His 'The Studio' Character

Dave Franco, known for his hilarious appearances as a party animal version of himself in Apple TV+'s 'The Studio,' reveals that his real life couldn't be more different from that onscreen one. In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Franco shares that he's "a very boring person these days" and doesn't go to Vegas or barely even drink.

The 39-year-old actor, who played a drugged-up version of himself in the series, tells PEOPLE that there was a "niceness in the unhingedness of it all." Franco shares that he and his wife Alison Brie's idea of an exciting night is staying home and watching a documentary with their two cats.

Franco also adds that playing a character so different from himself was a freedom, allowing him to take it as far as he wanted to go. "It's like, the crazier you go, the better. Just poke fun at yourself, be as silly as possible, and there's no wrong answer because it's like, 'Hey, I'm playing me. You can't fault me for what I'm doing in any of these scenes. This is me,'" he explained.

The series, which was renewed for a second season earlier this month, has Franco thinking about where his ridiculous storyline could go next. He suggests maybe he's gone hard the other direction, where he's now in a deep depression, or maybe his wife could outshine him, being even more manic and positive.

Seth Rogen, who created the series and starred in it as studio head Matt Remick, previously told PEOPLE that he'd envisioned the crazy party storyline specifically for Franco.

With the series now streaming on Apple TV+, fans can catch up on Franco's over-the-top antics and look forward to what's next for his character.
