Al Roker couldn't help but crack up during a shopping segment on the Today show, where a "phone umbrella" accessory was being showcased. The 70-year-old weatherman burst out laughing, saying the device "makes you look like an idiot."
The segment, which aired on Friday, May 23, featured co-anchor Savannah Guthrie and correspondent Chassie Post discussing new products for the summer. Post introduced the phone umbrella, which is a mini umbrella that attaches to a phone and case, shielding it from the sun and rain.
Roker's outburst came when Post was trying to highlight its selling points, such as keeping the glare off the phone and preventing it from overheating. Roker shouted from off-camera, "It makes you look like an idiot!"
The Today cameras caught Roker's reaction, showing him standing to the side with his face in his hands, laughing. Guthrie also chimed in, saying, "This is silly."
Despite Roker's skepticism, the phone umbrella is available at Target and comes in eight colors. The Today show co-anchors are known for sharing their candid opinions on the show, and Roker's reaction was no exception.
Fans of Roker can rest assured that he has no plans to retire anytime soon. In a previous interview with PEOPLE, he said, "You know, when you know. I don't feel like that's my time yet, but who knows," Roker said. "Maybe a year or two, maybe not, but I'm enjoying it. I love this."
