The spinoff was announced mere days following the series finale of S.W.A.T., and Sony Pictures TV President Katherine Pope has teased that Shemar Moore won't be the only S.W.A.T. star to appear on the spinoff EXILES.

Moore Calls Himself the "Tom Brady of S.W.A.T."

In an Instagram post, Moore shared a video where he called himself the "Tom Brady of S.W.A.T." and addressed being the only cast member announced to return, calling his former co-stars "a strong squad, a family, a team."

According to Pope, the spinoff will feature a "clear world" where some "favorites" from the series will pop up. "For sure," Pope said, noting that the shows now exist in their own "universe."

EXILES Premise: A Take on the Culture Generation Clash

Pope also teased more about S.W.A.T. EXILES' premise, calling it "a bit of a take on the culture generation clash of Gen X versus Gen Z." She explained, "Where Hondo is all about duty, hierarchy, and chain of command, the Gen Zers are a little more like, 'I might need to take a mental health day. I want to talk about it. I want to understand it.' It's kind of our take on Top Gun Maverick."

EXILES came together "within weeks" following CBS' cancelation of S.W.A.T., which was technically the third time the network canceled it. The spinoff's first season will feature 10 episodes, with Jason Ning serving as showrunner and executive producing alongside Neal H. Moritz, Pavun Shetty, James Scura, and Moore.

(L-R) 'S.W.A.T.' stars David Lim, Annie Ilonzeh, Niko Pepaj, Shemar Moore, Anna Enger Ritch, Patrick St. Esprit, and Jay Harrington.

Moore said in a statement about the spinoff, "My eight seasons on S.W.A.T. have been epic and memorable. We entertained the world, defied the odds, came back from the dead twice, and continued to woo fans and families worldwide."
