Terry Crews Reveals Why He'll Never Be a Judge on America's Got Talent

Terry Crews has no interest in trading in his hosting duties for a spot behind the judges' table, and he's opening up about why.

In an interview with PEOPLE, the 56-year-old actor and former professional football player explained that he's happy to remain in his role as host, which he's held since season 14 in 2019.

"That's not my thing," he said of being a judge. "I mean, I am 100% the bodyguard of talent because when I look at all the people that come through here, they just remind me of me."

Crews, who attended the show's 20th season red carpet event in Pasadena, California, said he's more comfortable supporting the contestants, rather than critiquing their performances.

"I'm the counselor when they go on. I give them all the good advice when they come off. If it didn't go well, I console them," he said. "So I love that."

Crews did, however, suggest that Chris Rock would make a great judge alongside Simon Cowell, Howie Mandel, Sofía Vergara, and Mel B.

"I think Chris Rock would be a great judge," he revealed. "He knows funny, but he knows entertainment."

Meanwhile, Crews said working on America's Got Talent is "a dream come true" for him.

"This is a dream gig," he said. "Where else can you go where the whole world is watching?"

America's Got Talent season 20 premieres Tuesday, May 27, at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.
