Rick Derringer, a legendary singer, guitarist, and producer, has passed away at the age of 77. His caretaker and friend, Tony Wilson, confirmed the news on Facebook, stating that Rick died on May 26 in Ormond Beach, Florida, with his wife of 28 years and Wilson by his side.

Rick's music career spanned over five decades, during which he collaborated with iconic artists like Alice Cooper, Steely Dan. He penned hits like "Rock and Roll, Hoochie Koo" and "Real American," which became a theme song for wrestlers, including Hulk Hogan. He also discovered Weird Al Yankovic and worked as a producer on his albums and videos, earning a Grammy for his production work.

Born in Ohio, Rick skyrocketed to fame as the lead singer of The McCoys when his band's song "Hang On Sloopy" landed the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1965. He later formed Johnny Winter And and Edgar Winter's White Trash.

In the early 2000s, Rick pivoted to smooth jazz and toured with Ringo Starr and The All Starr Band for three years. He also penned popular theme songs for wrestlers, including Hulk Hogan's "Real American."
