Country star Megan Moroney has found a sense of bravery in being vulnerable through her music. The 27-year-old singer told PEOPLE at the 2025 American Music Awards that being "painfully honest" in her songwriting has brought her strength and a sense of connection with her fans. "I think it's brave, and I don't feel weaker for it," she said.

Moroney, who has been on her Am I Okay? tour, has been writing about her life experiences, which will be reflected in her upcoming album. The album, which is about 80% written, will have a lighter tone than her previous work. "I've got so many songs on my phone right now that I'm just going to freak out," she said.

The country star's vulnerability has been a key factor in her meteoric rise to stardom, especially among her young female fans. "If I can be the one that tells them it's going to be okay, or I once felt this way and now I don't — I think it's brave, and I don't feel weaker for it," she said.

Moroney's willingness to be open and honest in her music has resonated with her fans, who appreciate her bravery. "There's definitely strength in being painfully honest, even if it's hard to talk about whatever it is," she said.
