Richard Simmons may have left General Hospital, but he left behind a special gift and unforgettable memories for his costar Lynn Herring.

Herring, who plays Lucy Coe on the long-running soap opera, shared her fond memories of Simmons in a recent interview. Simmons appeared on the show over 100 times, starting in 1979, and even played himself in the show's 50th-anniversary episode.

Herring recalled Simmons' energy and joy on set, saying, "Richard wanted people to feel his love and acceptance and warmth, and that's the first thing you see." She also remembered a special gift Simmons gave her, a beautiful jeweled dress he had gotten at an auction or art house.

"I told him, 'Richard, I don't need a gift, but I will keep that and treasure it,' because it just represents everything he gave everybody," Herring said.

Herring also shared a funny story about their scenes together, saying, "We would be doing our nemesis stuff, and then we would crack up. We did have to do several takes occasionally."

Simmons' appearances on General Hospital helped him crossover from a quirky Los Angeles fitness expert to a household name. His General Hospital gig in 2013 was one of his last before he retired.
