George R.R. Martin Shares Update on The Winds of Winter, Jokingly Says He's "So Old" and "Going to Die Soon Anyway"

George R.R. Martin, the beloved author of the A Song of Ice and Fire series, has shared a humorous update on the long-awaited next installment, The Winds of Winter. In a post on his official website, Martin joked that he's "so old" and "going to die soon anyway," much to the dismay of fans anxiously awaiting its release.

Martin, 76, revealed that he's currently working on an animated adaptation of Howard Waldrop's novella A Dozen Tough Jobs, which may come as a disappointment to fans hoping for news on The Winds of Winter. However, he did address the topic, saying, "I know, I know. Some of you will just be pissed off by this, as you are by everything I announce here that is not about Westeros or The Winds of Winter."

In a tongue-in-cheek manner, Martin wrote, "I lost all interest in A Song of Ice and Fire decades ago. I don't give a shit about writing any longer, I just sit around and spend my money." He also joked that fans don't care about his other works, only The Winds of Winter.

However, Martin reassured fans that he does care about the characters and world of Westeros, saying, "I care about them all. More than you can ever imagine." This statement comes months after Martin told The Hollywood Reporter that completing The Winds of Winter was still a priority, despite feeling that fans may be right that he'll "never finish."

For now, fans will have to wait patiently for any updates on the sixth installment of the A Song of Ice and Fire series.
