Leighton Meester, known for her iconic role as Blair Waldorf in the hit TV show Gossip Girl, has recently opened up about her short-lived pop music career in an interview with Bustle. Meester released a few pop singles in 2009, including the top-10 hit "Good Girls Go Bad" with Cobra Starship, but eventually shifted her focus to more folk-inspired music.

Meester revealed that she didn't feel comfortable singing pop music, stating, "I didn't feel like I sang that well in those songs... That's why I stopped doing that style of songwriting, because I didn't feel really good when I would sing it." This realization came to her in her 20s, leading her to explore other genres, including country music, which she recorded for the film Country Strong in 2010.

Interestingly, Flavor Flav, the legendary rapper, showed his support for Meester's music earlier this year after she lost her home in the Los Angeles wildfires. Flav posted a TikTok video set to Meester's song "Somebody to Love," encouraging fans to stream her music and support her recovery.

Currently, Meester is gearing up for an upcoming role in season 2 of Netflix's Nobody Wants This. She expressed her desire to be more selective in her career choices, stating, "It's been really, very lovely to do a couple of shows where there is that feeling of: there could be a future there." However, she's not looking too far ahead, preferring to take things one step at a time.
