Cause of Death Revealed for 18-Year-Old Baylor Football Star Alex Foster

Alex Foster, a top Baylor football player, has died unexpectedly in his hometown of Greenville, Mississippi. The athlete was found with multiple gunshot wounds in a car, according to multiple reports.

The Greenville Police Department confirmed that officers responded to shots fired at approximately 12:11 a.m. local time at 1800 East Alexander St. on the morning of Wednesday, May 28. Police discovered a male who had been shot multiple times in a car, and the victim was transferred to Delta Health Center, where he died 35 minutes later.

The cause of death has been revealed as multiple gunshot wounds, according to the Washington County coroner's office. No arrests have been made as of yet amid the ongoing investigation.

The shooting is part of a "surge in violent crimes" in the area, according to Greenville Mayor Errick D. Simmons. Simmons has implemented a 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew to help "stabilize conditions" and has ordered late-night establishments and all nightclubs to cease operations at midnight.

Baylor Football confirmed Foster's death in a statement shared on X and the Baylor Bears website on Wednesday. Head coach Dave Aranda and athletic director Mack Rhoades said they were "heartbroken by the unexpected loss" of Foster, "a beloved teammate, friend, and a cherished part of the Baylor family."

Foster was a highly anticipated player for Baylor and the highest-rated high school signing of the 2024 class. He redshirted his freshman season after a standout high school career for St. Joseph High School in Greenville, Mississippi.

Foster's high school coach, John Baker, described him as "a great guy" who was "real quiet, soft-spoken" and "had his head on right." Foster was planning to return to the Baylor campus in Waco, Texas, this weekend.

Baylor Football coach Dave Aranda added in an additional statement on X, "We are devastated by this loss. In his time at Baylor, he made a long-lasting impact on all of us in the program. Our hearts are broken, and our prayers are with his family, friends, and all those who loved him so deeply."

St. Joseph Catholic-Greenville football coach John Baker told the Clarion-Ledger that Foster had been in Greenville for summer break and had been planning to return to the Baylor campus in Waco, Texas, this weekend.
