Beyoncé's Cowboy Carter tour stop in Houston on Saturday, June 28, was not without its drama. During her performance of "16 Carriages," a flying car prop malfunctioned, leaving the singer suspended in mid-air.
The scary moment was captured in a TikTok video, where Beyoncé is seen sitting on top of a red convertible as it begins to tilt at a sharp angle in the air. The singer, 43, remains calm and composed, holding onto one of the cables attached to the car as it tilts.
"Stop, stop, stop, stop, stop," Beyoncé says into the microphone as the music cuts out. She then smiles at the crowd as they cheer, and calmly tells them, "Thank y'all for your patience."
After a few seconds, the singer is finally brought down to the center of the stadium, where she shuffles back to her original seated position on top of the car while smiling at the crowd as the lights are turned off.
Fans were quick to react to the incident, with one writing, "Omg she scared me. So glad she's safe and nothing happened!! SOMEBODY GETTING FIRREDDDD," referring to Beyoncé's iconic line from her I Am World Tour in 2010.
According to the Houston Chronicle, the car stopped moving mid-air midway through the song. After the car was lowered down, Beyoncé "briefly" exited the stage floor before returning to finish her performance, Hot New Hip Hop reported.
The cause of the malfunction is not clear at this time. However, Beyoncé's representatives did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment on Sunday, June 29.
A clip posted on X showed Beyoncé addressing the mishap after returning to the stage. "If ever I fall, I know y'all would catch me," she said as the crowd cheered loudly in response.
