Get ready for more hilarious moments and chaotic adventures with Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne as they reprise their roles as best friends Will and Sylvie in the Apple TV+ series Platonic. The streaming platform has unveiled a first look at the upcoming season, which premieres on Wednesday, August 6, nearly two years after the first season concluded.
The teaser trailer shows Rogen's Will and Byrne's Sylvie riding on a golf cart, with Sylvie refusing to pick up a club, saying, "Oh no, not me. I've never held one of these. I don't even know why I'm here." Will, however, steps up to the tee to take a swing, only to send the ball flying into the eye of a fellow golfer, leading to a frantic 911 call and lots of yelling.
The Comedy Series Explores Midlife Crisis and Friendship
Platonic, co-created by Nick Stoller and Francesca Delbanco, centers on Will and Sylvie as former best friends who reconnect after a long rift and help each other hilariously navigate life's ups and downs as they approach midlife.
Ahead of the show's 2023 premiere, Byrne told PEOPLE that going from playing spouses with Rogen in the Neighbors films to playing best friends in Platonic was "different."
"The dynamic is just intuitive. And we realized that day one, like, 'Oh, yeah, all right. We can do these things, but we can't do these things.' It was an opportunity to discover different ways to find the comedy," she explained.
Byrne added that the show "lives and dies on the friendship and the chemistry" of her and Rogen's characters.
New Guest Stars Join the Show
In addition to Rogen and Byrne, both executive producers on the project, Luke Macfarlane and Carla Gallo reprise their characters from season 1.
Saturday Night Live alums Aidy Bryant, Kyle Mooney, and Beck Bennett join as guest stars for the show's sophomore season.
Platonic season 2 premieres with two episodes on Wednesday, August 6, on Apple TV+. New episodes will then stream weekly through October 1.
