Christopher McDonald is thrilled to be reunited with Adam Sandler onscreen, but he's keeping mum about the plot of the upcoming sequel to 1996's Happy Gilmore.
In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, McDonald, 70, said he was "over the moon" to be asked to be in the Kyle Newacheck-directed sequel, again co-written with Tim Herlihy.
However, McDonald said he couldn't reveal any plot details, citing a non-disclosure agreement. "This is kind of a big deal," he said.
The sequel, which hits Netflix on July 25, sees the return of star and co-writer Sandler, 58, as the titular hockey-player-turned-golfer. McDonald reprises his role as Happy's rival golfer Shooter McGavin, joining returning cast members Julie Bowen, Ben Stiller, Dennis Dugan, and Travis Kelce and Bad Bunny.
McDonald praised Sandler and distributor Netflix, saying they've "outdone themselves" in the sequel. "What I love about Adam Sandler is his heart," he said. "He's got so much love for people... And he's done some amazing work in the last few years. So I'm very happy for him."

The long-awaited sequel also meant that McDonald, a real-life golfer, got to break out the clubs again. When asked about his golfing skills, he teased, "Oh, that's part of the plot."
McDonald added that shooting the film was a great experience, saying, "We shot it mostly in New Jersey, and just had a great time."
