Austin Butler is diving into the world of crime in his latest movie, "Caught Stealing", directed by Darren Aronofsky. The trailer, released on May 21, 2025, gives us a glimpse into the life of Hank Thompson, a former baseball star who gets embroiled in 1990s New York City criminal underworld.
The movie, based on the novel of the same name, also stars Matt Smith, Liev Schreiber, Regina King, Vincent D'Onofrio, and Bad Bunny. The trailer shows Hank's life taking a turn for the worse when he agrees to watch his neighbor's cat, only to be mistaken for his neighbor and assaulted by two men.
The official synopsis reads, "Hank Thompson was a high-school baseball phenom who can’t play anymore, but everything else is going okay. He’s got a great girl, tends bar at a New York dive, and his favorite team is making an underdog run at the pennant." However, Hank's life takes a dark turn when he gets embroiled in the criminal underworld, with gangsters wanting a piece of him.
Austin Butler and Darren Aronofsky met during awards season in 2022 and early 2023, and Butler jumped at the opportunity to work with the director. The movie marks Butler's first big-screen appearance since last year's "Dune: Part Two" and "The Bikeriders".
Zoë Kravitz, who stars alongside Butler, appears on the big screen for the first time since she acted in her own directorial debut Blink Twice". The movie also stars Griffin Dunne, Benito A Martínez Ocasio, and Carol Kane.
"Caught Stealing" is set to release in theaters on August 29. You can watch the trailer here.
