Get ready for an epic battle as Jason Momoa stars as the warrior Ka'iana in the upcoming Apple TV+ series 'Chief of War', a passion project for him and his co-creator Thomas Pa'a Sibbett.
In the first teaser for the series, inspired by true events, war is coming — and it's up to Ka'iana to win. The teaser sets the stage for the battle of a lifetime, with Momoa's character replying "Not today" when asked if he desires peace over war.
The series is set against the backdrop of Hawai'i and follows Momoa's Ka'iana as he tries to unify the islands before Western colonization in the late 18th century. The show is told from an Indigenous perspective and features a predominantly Polynesian cast.
Momoa called the series "a story rooted in my home, my culture, and my heart" and said it's "Hawaiian history has never been told like this."
The 45-year-old actor previously told PEOPLE that 'Chief of War' was "20 years in the making" and called it his own version of 'Braveheart' or 'Last of the Mohicans'."
He also posted a selfie-style video to his Instagram Stories celebrating the release of the first photo from the show, saying "It's finally out – please go check out the first look of Chief of War. Just wanna say, all my love to Hawai'i."
The first two episodes of 'Chief of War' premiere on August 1 on Apple TV+, with new episodes premiering Fridays through September 19.
