Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader Ava Lahey Addresses 'No. 1 Question' About Her Rare Hairstyle

Published: July 1, 2025

Ava Lahey, a member of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders and star of Netflix's "America's Sweethearts," has spoken out about her unique hairstyle, which sets her apart from her teammates.

In a recent Instagram Reel, Lahey addressed the question she gets asked the most: why she wears her hair straight instead of the iconic curly style synonymous with the DCC. The Florida native explained that her hair would "fall flat" after approximately 20 minutes, ruining the curls she put in place.

Lahey, who also stars in Netflix's hit series "America's Sweethearts," revealed that her hair is naturally soft and fine, making it difficult to hold a curl. During her rookie makeover, she was told to try wearing her hair straight, and it became her signature look.

Despite the DCC being known for their big and bouncy curls, Lahey confirmed that she got the "reassurance" she needed to wear her hair straight. "It just feels so me," she admitted, adding that it's what makes her feel and look her best.

The Strict Rules of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders

The DCC has strict rules and guidelines regarding their appearance, including their hair. Members of the squad have opened up about the rules in the past, including the requirement to wear their hair down at all times, even during rehearsals.

The movement of the hair is more important than the length, according to Cowboys cheerleader choreographer Judy Trammell. Hairstyles should be "current" and never hide one's face, and the girls must maintain the look they established with DCC officials.

Upkeep takes place year-round at the DCC's official salon, Tangerine. In December 2024, DCC member Armani Latimer went viral for dancing without a wig for the first time since revealing her alopecia diagnosis, inspiring her teammates, coaches, and fans.
