A new documentary, "Driven: The Freddie Freeman Story," is set to debut on MLB Network on Thursday, giving fans a unique glimpse into the life of the Dodgers' star first baseman. The 90-minute documentary takes viewers on an emotional journey, showcasing Freeman's vulnerability and sharing stories about his childhood, his journey to the top of the baseball world, and his personal struggles.
The documentary features archival footage of Freeman's childhood, including a heartwarming moment where his late mother, Rosemary Freeman, is heard calling out his name as he slides down a water slide. The moment brought Freeman to tears, according to coordinating producer Jed Tuminaro.
The documentary also explores Freeman's relationships with his teammates, including Jason Heyward, Dansby Swanson, Mookie Betts, and Justin Turner, who all speak to Freeman's journey and the kind of person he is. Even Freeman's father, Fred Freeman, is featured prominently in the documentary, providing a "gold mine" of information and sharing his own emotional moments, including his reaction to his son's iconic 2024 World Series grand slam.
The documentary is a rare look at Freeman's personal life, which is often not discussed in the media. "There are just so many ups and downs in his story, and I'm not sure if everyone's really aware of that," said Tuminaro. "And so many of these great moments, he's had to overcome some adversity to achieve that."
Fans can catch "Driven: The Freddie Freeman Story" on MLB Network on Thursday at 5 p.m. Pacific, with a re-run at 9:30 p.m.
