Lisa Rinna Opens Up About Her Melrose Place Casting: 'It Didn't Feel Clean'

Lisa Rinna is speaking out about her experience on the popular TV show Melrose Place, and it's not all sunshine and rainbows. In a recent podcast, Rinna revealed that her casting on the show didn't feel entirely "clean" due to the circumstances surrounding it.

Rinna appeared on the Melrose Place rewatch podcast, Still the Place, where she shared that she was hired for the role of Taylor McBride after another actress, Hunter Tylo, was fired from the show before filming began. Tylo was let go after she told them she was pregnant, and later filed a lawsuit against the show's creator, Aaron Spelling, alleging discrimination.

Tylo's Lawsuit and Rinna's Testimony

Tylo's lawsuit against Spelling was eventually settled in her favor, with the actress winning a nearly $5 million lawsuit. Rinna testified in the lawsuit, alongside her co-star Heather Locklear. Both Rinna and Locklear were pregnant at the time of the trial.

Rinna recalled that she had to testify on behalf of Spelling, saying, "We had to go and testify on the side of Spelling - you know, we were subpoenaed. And I'll just never forget - I don't even know if they knew I was pregnant. Heather was much more."

Rinna added that she never felt completely satisfied with her casting because of all that came before it, saying, "You know, whenever you get a role that somebody else lost, it never really feels 100 [percent] good. Even though this was a big break for me to get this role, I got it under circumstances that didn't feel clean. And I didn't audition for it."

Rinna's Reflection on Her Time on the Show

Rinna appeared on Melrose Place for 66 episodes between 1996 and 1998. She reflected on her time on the show, saying that she never auditioned for the role, but instead, her manager at the time "worked magic, and the next thing I know, I'm playing this role."

Rinna's comments on the podcast have sparked interest in the behind-the-scenes drama of Melrose Place. The show was known for its scandalous plotlines and dramatic twists, but it seems that the drama wasn't just limited to the screen.
