Miley Cyrus has opened up about a traumatic experience she had while hosting her New Year's Eve party alongside her godmother Dolly Parton. The 32-year-old singer revealed that she suffered from a ruptured ovarian cyst just days before the event.
Cyrus shared the details of her ordeal during an appearance on The Zane Lowe Show on Apple Music 1. "I had a pretty traumatic experience on a show that I was doing with [Lorne Michaels] when I was doing my New Year's show," she said. "I had a medical emergency. I had an ovarian cyst rupture. We didn't know exactly what was going on, so we did it."
The singer described the experience as "excruciating" and "traumatic," but added that she managed to push through and host the show anyway. "It was really, really hard on me," she said.
Ovarian cysts are common, with the Mayo Clinic stating that "many women have ovarian cysts at some time." However, large or ruptured cysts can cause serious symptoms, including severe pelvic pain, bleeding, and bloating. In rare cases, a ruptured ovarian cyst may require surgery.
Cyrus is not the only celebrity to have spoken out about her experience with ovarian cysts. Other stars who have shared their stories include Hailey Bieber, Marsai Martin, Kate Beckinsale, Hilary Swank, Lena Dunham, and Olivia Culpo.
