Sara Bareilles and Cynthia Erivo shared an emotional moment during the 2025 Tony Awards, honoring those who have passed away in the theater community.
The ceremony, hosted by Erivo, took place at Radio City Music Hall in New York City on Sunday, June 8. Erivo and Bareilles performed a touching rendition of "Tomorrow" from the musical Annie, as images of the actors, artists, and theater producers who have passed away played behind them.
The In Memoriam segment honored theater figures including Gavin Creel, George Wendt, James Earl Jones, Maggie Smith, Mitzi Gaynor, Quincy Jones, Linda Lavin, Charles Strouse, Richard Chamberlain, and Tony Roberts, among others.
As the segment concluded, Bareilles, who was close friends with the late Gavin Creel, visibly broke down in tears when Creel's photo was shown. Erivo comforted Bareilles, wrapping her in a hug before the broadcast cut to commercial.
