Jake Thomas, best known for his role as Matt McGuire on the Disney Channel series Lizzie McGuire, has opened up about the viral meme that has haunted him for years.
During an interview at the Osmosis Jones premiere on August 7, 2001, Thomas, then 11 years old, said the words "cracking up" repeatedly, which eventually resurfaced and went viral on TikTok.
In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Thomas, now 35, revealed that he didn't remember doing the interview and was unaware of what possessed him to say "cracking up" multiple times.

"I think that's something we can all agree on these days — when we go to the movies, we're just looking forward to cracking up at some point," Thomas said, adding that he's not mad about the meme and finds it hilarious.
Thomas also revealed that he's often recognized in public for the meme, and it's a top comment on most of his social media posts.
"You know what — the meme, it doesn't matter who you are, how famous you are, how much money you have. Memes are a product of the culture, and you can't buy that with anything. So it's very special."
