The Netflix series featured twists and turns revolving around Merritt's life, and we've got the answers to all your burning questions.
The Investigation of Merritt's Disappearance
Carl Morck, played by Matthew Goode, and his assistant Akram Salim, rescue Merritt Lingard, played by Chloe Pirrie, from a hyperbaric chamber where she was held captive for four years. The investigation led them to the location of a company called Shorebird Ocean Systems.

Who Kidnapped Merritt?
Merritt was kidnapped by Ailsa Jennings and her son, Lyle Jennings. Ailsa believed Merritt was responsible for the death of her other son, Harry Jennings, whom Merritt dated when she was younger.

Who is Sam Haig?
Sam Haig was a journalist with whom Merritt believed she was in a relationship. However, it was revealed that Lyle killed Sam and then posed as him. Lyle and Sam knew each other as children, and their paths crossed again as adults, with Lyle eventually killing Sam, making it look like he died in a "climbing accident."
Does Department Q Rescue Merritt?
Yes, Carl and Akram rescue Merritt. They find the chamber where Merritt is being held, but before they can get to her, Lyle confronts them and shoots Carl in the shoulder. In response, Akram throws a knife and then uses Lyle's own gun to kill him.

Will There Be a Season 2 of Dept. Q?
Dept. Q has not yet been renewed for a second season, but there are more Carl Morck stories to tell. The first season adapted the original novel, but there are currently 10 books in the Department Q series by Adler-Olsen.
When the subject of a second season was brought up during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Goode said the series is "begging for it."
