Amaarae, the Ghanaian-American artist, is basking in the glory of her historic performance at Coachella, where she became the first Ghanaian artist to perform a solo set at the festival. In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Amaarae shared her feelings about the milestone moment and what fans can expect from her next album era, "Black Star."

A Historic Moment at Coachella

Amaarae's performance at Coachella was a momentous occasion for her and her family. "I was honored to hold not just the flag of my country, but the last name of my family and achieve something so big and bring honor to my family," she said, reflecting on the experience.

A Return to Home Turf at GovBall

Amaarae also performed at the 2025 Governors Ball Music Festival in New York City, which marked a return to her hometown. "This is actually my second time doing GovBall, and it's kind of beautiful to do something for the first time and then come back, and the crowd is bigger, and you know, [I'm] obviously repping BX," she said.

Celebrating Milestones and Teasing New Music

Amaarae's sophomore album, "Fountain Baby," received critical acclaim and landed on many publications' end-of-the-year best lists, including Metacritic's number one spot. She's now gearing up for her next album era, "Black Star," which promises to be "so much fun" with a focus on dance and sexy music.

"I have a new single coming out called 'Slut Me Out,' and it's out soon, I think, in the next few weeks, so watch out for that," she teased.

Amaarae is excited to share her new music and is looking forward to connecting with her fans. "This is the first time I've actually been excited to drop an album," she declared.
