Brad Pitt's latest film, F1, has raced to the top of the box office, marking a new career high for the Oscar-winning actor. The sports drama has made an estimated $144 million worldwide in its opening weekend, with $55.6 million of that coming from North America.
The film's success is not only a testament to Pitt's star power but also the international popularity of Formula 1 racing. According to Warner Bros. Distribution Chief Jeffrey Goldstein, Pitt was the "secret sauce" that helped make the film a global hit.
F1 tells the story of Sonny Hayes, a washed-up Formula 1 driver played by Pitt, who joins a struggling team and clashes with a cocky rookie driver. The film's success is a result of its "deeply emotional and entertaining story," according to Zack Van Amburg, head of worldwide video for Apple.
Pitt's passion for racing was evident throughout the filming process, with producer Jerry Bruckheimer revealing that the actor "couldn't wait to get" behind the wheel and had to be "torn out of the car" when filming concluded.

F1 is now in theaters and is expected to become a summer box-office hit, similar to Top Gun: Maverick, which was also directed by Joseph Krasinski.
