Pop star Chappell Roan is speaking out about being labeled a "villain" in the music industry. In a recent episode of the 'Outlaws' with TS Madison podcast, Roan claimed she's had multiple "villain" eras in the past nine months.
Roa, 27, stated that she thinks she's had three "villain eras" because she was the new girl in the pop game and didn't take kindly to being disrespected. "I've been treated better at my donut shop job than I have on a f------ carpet," she said, referring to her past experiences of being mistreated in the industry.
Roa added that because she didn't become famous until she was 26, she had a lot of time to experience what it's like to be an adult and how to be respected in a job. She emphasized that it's not being "a villain or ungrateful" if she asks someone not to be rude to her, but rather, it's about setting boundaries and being treated with respect.
Roa also reflected on the mistreatment of Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan, saying "People were so evil to them" and that they still experience that behavior despite belated apologies.
In September 2024, Roan called out someone on the step-and-repeat before the 2024 MTV VMAs, telling them to "shut the f--- up" after they allegedly disrespected her. The moment earned some cheers and chatter on the carpet.

Roa's comments come after she earned cheers for standing up for herself on the red carpet. The "Pink Pony Club" hitmaker has been vocal about setting boundaries and being treated with respect in the industry.
