JoJo Siwa has revealed that she went against the wishes of her team by joining Celebrity Big Brother UK, despite their attempts to discourage her from doing so.

In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE at the Epic Universe Celestial Carpet Opening Celebration event in Orlando, the 22-year-old admitted that she was determined to participate in the reality TV series, even if it meant going against the advice of her loved ones.

"It's funny because going into the experience, nobody on my team wanted me to do it," Siwa told PEOPLE. "But for some reason, I was really set on doing it."

The Dance Moms alum wrapped up season 24 of the long-running series in late April, and has since sparked romance rumors with her co-star Chris Hughes.

Siwa told PEOPLE that she's "in such a great place" after being romantically linked to Hughes, and that she's "so, so happy."

Siwa's decision to join Celebrity Big Brother UK was met with disapproval from her team, who tried to discourage her from participating in the reality show.

"Right before I went in, the last thing I told my mom is, I said, 'Mom, I think this is going to be the best thing I've ever done in my life,'" Siwa explained. "And I wasn't speaking about my career, I was speaking about my life, and I think I was accurate on that."

Siwa's time on the show was marked by a close friendship with her housemate, Love Island alum Chris Hughes, with whom she has sparked romance rumors.

Siwa has since clarified her sexuality, saying she is now queer rather than a lesbian, and has spoken about her experience on the show.

"I'm switching letters!" Siwa told Danny Beard, her co-star and former RuPaul's Drag Race UK star, referring to the letters in LGBTQ. "I've dropped the L and I've gone to the Q baby! That's what I love about sexuality."
