Tom Cruise's iconic character Les Grossman from the 2008 comedy Tropic Thunder might be getting his own standalone movie.
Director Christopher McQuarrie, who has worked with Cruise on the Mission: Impossible franchise, revealed in an interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast that he and Cruise have had "serious" conversations about making a Les Grossman movie.
"The conversations we've had about Les Grossman are so f---ing funny," McQuarrie said. "[Cruise and I are] talking about it. We're having very serious conversations about it, and how best to do it."
McQuarrie also shared that discussing the chaotic character brought relief during the filming of Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning. "Just to be sitting at a breakfast table not talking about the movie we're making for a minute is such decompression. And just riffing with Tom playing Les Grossman at the table, it was one of the real joys of making this movie," McQuarrie said.
Cruise's latest project, Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning, has received a five-minute standing ovation during the Cannes Film Festival. The actor thanked the festival crowd for their applause, saying he was "very grateful" to be a part of the franchise, which he has fronted for three decades.
