Comedian Nikki Glaser reveals her boyfriend Chris Convy has one rule when it comes to talking about him on stage

Nikki Glaser often pokes fun at her boyfriend Chris Convy, and their relationship in her standup acts, and he's completely fine with it as long as the jokes work. In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Glaser, 41, revealed that Convy has given her permission to talk about him on stage as long as it's funny.

"He's given me permission. He said, 'You can talk about anything on stage about me as long as it's funny.' The second it isn't, if it bombs, then we have an issue. If you're just venting up there just to get it off your chest and embarrass me, not good, but if you're up there and you're making a solid joke, you can do whatever you want,'" Glaser said.

Convy's mentality, the comedian said, is "such a gift as a performer." The couple has been together off and on for 10 years.

Glaser and Convy, whom she met when he produced the MTV talk series Nikki & Sara Live, have been together off and on for 10 years. "He's a creative genius, and he's a TV producer for years and years. My glow up within the industry, a big percentage of that is due to him being like, let's focus and let's make these things look better than they could ever look," she said. "We have a really good working relationship, actually."

Convy helped Glaser during her well-received Golden Globes hosting role earlier this year. She's already been booked to host next year's award show, too. "I have to raise the bar a little bit. So that's a challenge, but I'm so excited. It's the best gig I've ever had," she said, adding that she'd love to host multiple times. "The more comfortable the audience gets with you, the more fun you can have. So I'm excited this year to step out there and not have everyone be terrified I'm going to roast them so hard. I think they know how hard I go now, and everyone will be accordingly prepped and not nervously hiding in their seats."

While Convy has now given her the go-ahead to talk about their relationship, Glaser previously admitted that she and her boyfriend split in the past when she aired their dirty laundry on her podcast, instead of coming to him directly with her complaints about their relationship.

Not because I thought he won't hear them, but they would just come out naturally under the guise of 'it's comedy!' He eventually heard them and got, 'I don't recognize who this person is,'" she explained on The Howard Stern Show in May 2024.

Glaser revealed she is working to change her ways after realizing how it made Convy feel. "He had every reason to break up with me because it was jarring to him because I was just lying all the time," she said. "He really got me to stop lying, I'm better at it, I'm not perfect at it because I still fear abandonment, so there's some issues in our relationship where I fear he's going to be mad at me."
