Brooklyn Anderson, a junior from Oregon, won the 100-meter hurdles at the state track and field championships in Eugene on Saturday, May 31, in a manner that will be remembered for a long time.
Anderson, who led the race from the start, clipped the final hurdle with her right knee, which caused her to lose her balance. But, instead of giving up, she drew upon her gymnastics training and executed two perfect somersaults that carried her over the finish line.
"I wasn't sure how far back everybody else was behind me, so I just knew to just keep rolling," Anderson said in an interview with CBS affiliate KOIN-TV.
The crowd erupted in cheers as Anderson crossed the finish line, and she finished the race with an impressive 14.93 seconds to win the 5A state title," according to the report.
Anderson's impressive performance didn't stop there. She also placed third in the long jump and third in the 100m open at the meet.
Anderson's feat has gone viral, with many praising her quick thinking and athleticism.
