Singer-songwriter Fletcher has revealed that she has fallen in love with a man, shocking herself and others alike. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Fletcher, who is openly queer, shared the inspiration behind her new song "Boy," which will be featured on her forthcoming studio album Would You Still Love Me If You Really Knew Me?
Fletcher, 31, told Rolling Stone that she was just as surprised as anyone else by her new romance. "Girl, I had questions and I was confused too," she said. Despite her new flame, Fletcher assured that she's "so proud to be queer" and "that is not something that has ever wavered or changed."
Fletcher also opened up about how her Lyme disease diagnosis in 2023 changed her perspective. "[I] went through a really intense healing journey which allowed me to pause. I started having so many questions about my career and my purpose," she explained. "I think through allowing myself to ask those deeper questions about this fixed dream I thought I would always be chasing, my heart opened in a way I wasn’t expecting, and I fell in love with a boy."
Fletcher's third studio album, Would You Still Love Me If You Really Knew Me?, will be released on July 18. The album represents revelations in her life, including her new romance.
Fletcher has been open about her fluid sexuality in the past. "I grew up in a really conservative small town. I was raised going to a Catholic church. There's just a narrative that I've had from a young age that all the ways that I wanted to love I was wrong for," she said of her hometown of Asbury Park, New Jersey.
