Boston University (BU) has announced that it will conduct an external review of its athletic department policies following multiple allegations of harassment against former women's soccer coaches. The review comes in the wake of Alex Cooper's revelations about sexual harassment by her former coach, Nancy Feldman, in her Hulu docuseries "Call Her Alex."
Cooper, the host of the popular podcast "Call Her Daddy," alleged that she endured years of sexual harassment by Feldman, who retired in 2022. In her docuseries, Cooper claimed that Feldman would make comments about her body, ask about her sex life, and even offer to drive her to night classes alone. Cooper broke down in tears as she recounted the harassment, stating that it made her feel "small" and "confused."
The university has released a statement saying that it takes harassment and sexual harassment seriously and is committed to providing a safe and respectful environment for all students. The external review is expected to provide recommendations for improving the athletic department's policies and procedures.
This is not the first allegation of harassment against a BU coach. Former women's soccer coach Casey Brown was accused of grooming an anonymous teammate and was placed on leave in October 2024. Brown denied the allegations and resigned two months later.
The review is a positive step towards addressing the concerns of students and ensuring that the university provides a safe and respectful environment for all. As the university stated, "We look forward to an external review's recommendations that can provide suggestions for continued improvements as we strive for excellence in our athletic program."
