It's hard to believe it's been 24 years since Destiny's Child released their catchy hit "Bootylicious." The song, which samples Stevie Nicks' "Edge of Seventeen," spent 20 weeks on the charts and reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Beyoncé recently opened up about writing the song after being body-shamed as a teenager. "I remember when I started hearing people criticize me after I had put on some weight. I was 19. None of the sample clothes fit me. I was feeling a bit insecure from hearing some of the comments, and I woke up one day and refused to feel sorry for myself, so I wrote 'Bootylicious,'" she told Harper's Bazaar in 2021.
The song's iconic guitar riff has an interesting history beyond Stevie Nicks' song. Guitarist Waddy Wachtel, who performs the riff on "Edge of Seventeen," addressed its similarities to The Police's "Bring On the Night" in an April 1999 interview with Musician.
Stevie Nicks even makes a cameo in the music video, playing her guitar as it flashes from her to the group and others in the video.
