Glenn Howerton, known for his versatility as an actor, has taken on a new challenge in Netflix's latest beach series, Sirens. In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Howerton opened up about playing Ethan Corbin II, a character he describes as "naive and slightly oblivious."

"My character's very kind of naive and slightly oblivious, and I sort of pride myself on being the exact opposite of that in the real world," he explained. "I try really hard to understand how my actions affect other people and not move through the world in an oblivious manner."

Howerton added that some of Ethan's "more oblivious moments" have been "a little difficult for me to play because it's just so different from me, but that's also what I love about it."

The actor also expressed his excitement for fans to see the series, which he describes as an "incisive, sexy, and darkly funny exploration of women, power, and class." "It's not a big commitment. It's longer than a movie, but it's only five episodes. So I think it's going to fly by and people are maybe even possibly going to want more," he said.

Sirens: A New Take on Power and Class

Sirens, a five-episode limited series, takes place over the course of one explosive weekend at The Kells' lavish island estate. The series stars Julianne Moore, Milly Alcock, Meghann Fahy, Kevin Bacon, Bill Camp, and Felix Solis.

Howerton's character, Ethan Corbin II, is a far cry from his own personality, which made it a challenge for him to play. "We're always looking for a challenge. I don't want to be myself all the time on screen," he said.

The series is set to explore themes of power, class, and luxury, with Michaela's cult-like life of luxury being the central focus. "Michaela's cult-ish life of luxury is like a drug to Simone, and Devon has decided it's time for an intervention," the official logline reads.

Glenn Howerton's Thoughts on Sirens

"It's this very kind of ethereal mystery, suspense drama, but it is also really, really funny," he said of the series. "It strikes a tone that I don't think I've ever really seen before. And then there's just so many marvelous actors in it that are just really putting forth really impressive work."

Howerton also praised the series' unique tone, saying it's something he's never seen before. "It's not a big commitment. It's longer than a movie, but it's only five episodes. So I think it's going to fly by and people are maybe even possibly going to want more," he added.
