The beloved pop music-themed animated series, Jem and the Holograms, turns 40 this year, and to celebrate, Hasbro is releasing brand new versions of the show's iconic soundtrack on streaming platforms for the first time ever. The music has been fully remastered for a new generation, blending synth-pop, glam rock, and girl-power anthems that tap into 80s retro charm.

Hasbro reunited with Britta Phillips, the original lead vocalist, to record six of the most beloved tracks from the series, including "Only The Beginning," "Truly Outrageous," "Like A Dream," "I Got My Eye On You," "She's Got The Power" and "Jem and the Holograms Theme (Reimagined)". The full album will be released in July, alongside a vinyl release.

Phillips, 61, told Billboard, "Seriously, I was thrilled to be asked to sing these songs again." She took voice lessons before re-recording the Jem songs, since her voice has aged over the last four decades. "Luckily, the sound of my voice and my vocal range hasn't changed much. It's still pretty girlish," she said. "The biggest challenge was singing at such fast tempos (the original tempos), but it was very exciting and nostalgic for me, and I had a blast!"

The six songs are a nostalgic trip back to the 80s, with fans yearning for more songs from the main band, as well as their rivals, The Misfits. One fan commented on Hasbro's announcement, "Ok but what about The Misfits? Their songs were better."

Phillips told Billboard that recording "Only the Beginning" was the most emotional experience for her. "It brought me back to my beginning, and so it felt like a full circle of my life from the very beginning of my musical career to the present."

Hasbro is also celebrating the anniversary with a new Jem doll release, following a live-action film adaptation in 2015 and a comic book series that brought the band into the present day.
