The co-hosts, who have been married for nearly 30 years, debated what would happen if they ever broke up during the May 29 episode of 'Live with Kelly and Mark'

Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos' Relationship Timeline

Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos contemplated what would happen if they broke up in the May 29 episode of Live with Kelly and Mark. When Ripa claimed Consuelos would "fall apart" without being married to her, he joked that he would go find a younger woman.

The couple, who have been married for almost three decades, met during a screen test for All My Children in 1995. They eloped in Las Vegas a year later and went on to welcome three children together.

During the episode, Ripa brought up a study that showed that men "placed more importance on romance" than women. She explained that men "experience greater mental and physical health benefits from being in a relationship" and "struggle more with the emotional toll of a breakup."

Ripa then told Consuelos, also 54: "I know if you and I broke up, you would absolutely fall apart, completely."

Consuelos admitted, prompting a collective "aww" from the audience.

Mark Consuelos' Backup Plan

Consuelos then revealed how he would cope if he and Ripa ever did go their separate ways.

"But I do feel like someone would be there on the other end just to pick me up and make sure I'm okay. Pretty sure," he joked. "I'd have to get used to their college schedule and all that stuff."

Ripa laughed at her husband's speculation and teased, "Oh my God. Oh, dear God, I hope I live to see your second wife!"

What Love Means to Mark Consuelos

In a March episode, Consuelos reflected on what love means to him, saying: "Love for me now is spending a quiet afternoon with you just watching me watch sports. No, I love being with my family."

Ripa replied, calling Consuelos "my favorite person." She added that she thinks men experience more feelings at the beginning of a relationship because of "the chase," and while Consuelos agreed, he said love naturally shifts over time.
