Ben Wang, the star of the new movie Karate Kid: Legends, has revealed a shocking injury he sustained on set. In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Wang shared that he lost the tip of his pinky finger during a stunt.
“I sliced off the tip of my pinky,” Wang, 25, said. “They regenerate. Did you know your fingertips regenerate?”
Wang, who stars alongside Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio in the sixth film of the Karate Kid franchise, explained that the injury occurred during a stunt where he had to do a crazy spin on top of a table and catch himself in the end. “They wrap a wire around you and there's a giant, burly dude who yanks that thing. And it kind of scraped my finger and whacked it against the bottom of the table that had metal bracings,” he said.
Wang also shared that he was a huge fan of the Karate Kid franchise growing up and was thrilled to be a part of it. “Jackie Chan, he was my first idea of what an actor is, as a kid is,” he said. “The 2010 film was like perfection for me. Jaden Smith was so great in it.”
