Published: June 2, 2025

It's hard to believe it's been two decades since the release of the beloved film, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. The film's director, Ken Kwapis, sat down with PEOPLE to discuss the possibility of a third installment in the series.

Kwapis revealed that while they've tried to develop a third film, they haven't cracked it yet. The main challenge lies in creating a story that catches up with the four main characters, Carmen (America Ferrera), Lena (Alexis Bledel), Bridget (Blake Lively), and Tibby (Amber Tamblyn), beyond the scope of the book series.

The director also acknowledged that the final book, Sisterhood Everlasting, deals with a tragic element that might be difficult to incorporate into the film. However, Kwapis remains hopeful, stating that he's still in touch with the cast and would love to work with them again.

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants is currently streaming on AppleTV and Amazon Prime.

The cast, including Ferrera, Tamblyn, Lively, and Bledel, have remained close friends over the years, and Kwapis hopes to work with them again in the future.

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants has become a beloved franchise, and fans are eagerly waiting for a new installment. While there's no concrete news on a third film, Kwapis' comments have given fans hope that it might still happen in the future.
